Learn how to cook pinto beans on the stove using two simple ingredients – dried pinto beans and h2o! Cooking pinto beans on the stove is easy, cheaper than buying the canned version, and makes the best creamy and tender pinto beans ever!

Dried pinto beans are staple in my pantry. Non only are they cheap and affordable, but they're like shooting fish in a barrel to brand, nutritious, filling, and super versatile! They can be eaten on their own, as a side dish or incorporated into recipes similar soups, stews, chilis, and easy dinners like burritos and tostadas.

If you've never cooked dried pinto beans before, don't fret! It's literally as easy as pouring water into a pot and letting the beans simmer. Once you larn how to make them at home, y'all'll never purchase canned beans again!

The essential ingredients

To cook pinto beans on the stove, there are just 2 ingredients you lot need:

  • 1 pound stale pinto beans
  • water

Anything else you want to add is optional and extra. This is how I typically make my beans. Once they're cooked, I apply them in different recipes which is when I like to add other ingredients and seasonings.

Other seasonings and aromatics

If you lot plan on eating your pinto beans as is and aren't going to use them in any other recipes, you tin flavor them while they're cooking. Here are a few ingredients yous can add to the pot to enhance their flavor:

  • 1/ii onion
  • 1 bay leaf
  • i/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon coarse kosher salt, plus more than to taste

  • 1 pound dried pinto beans
  • water, for soaking and cooking

Optional ingredients*

  • 1/2 big onion
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 dried bay leaf

  • Pour the beans into a large basin. Selection out and discard any beans that are shriveled or split as well equally any small rocks that may have made their way into the bag.

Storage – I recommend storing the cooked pinto beans in an airtight container in the fridge with the water they are cooked in. This will assist keep them moist and make certain they don't dry out. Cooked beans will last about 1 week in the fridge.

Optional ingredients – If you programme on eating the pinto beans as is and not using them equally a base in other recipes, I recommend adding in the optional ingredients to raise their flavor.
